Samsung’s New Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1)
Recently Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab 2 in a 7 inch format. It was aimed to be the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich replacement for the very first Galaxy Tab. In essence it is a slightly lesser powered (1ghz dual core processor versus 1.2ghz dual core) version of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus which is still running Android 3.2 Honeycomb.
Now Samsung have announced a Tab 2 version of the popular 10.1 inch. What is the difference between the new Tab 2 10.1 and the old 10.1? The new one has Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and support for a Micro SD card. Big whoopee!
I am a Samsung fan but I am struggling to understand the point of this. Why not just hurry up with the promised Ice Cream Sandwich updates for the existing Galaxy Tab range?

Samsung Galaxy Beam a Smartphone with Built in Projector
I am a bit of a Samsung fan. I have been an early adopter of the Galaxy Tab then it was the Galaxy S II phone, Tab 10.1 and currently the Galaxy Note. Of all these devices I think my favourite has to be the S II (which my wife now uses) and then the Note.
This new Galaxy Beam though appeals to me, especially if you can use the projector to not only display content from the phone but from one’s laptop, tablet etc as well

Sunday Stroll

I enjoy going for a walk. During the week, morning walks are done with the purpose of exercise and tend to find one on the road with racing cars heading to work and trying to get a head start on everyone else.
This morning I went for a different kind of walk. The weather was overcast and a light misty rain was falling. With a Nikon Coolpix camera in my pocket I headed out for a Sunday Stroll rather than the weekly wild rush that I normally take. I have spent the day pondering what makes a Sunday Stroll so much enjoyable.
This morning’s walk had all the elements of what makes an inspiring photography walk. The weather was misareable by normal walkers standards, meaning perfect weather for soft light and the rain provided for jewel like sparkles of water droplets on plants and feathers. The walk home provided the sounds of someone practising their piano playing and the hammering of a DIY home improvement project. All in all, only one car passed me on the walk, quite something right outside the entrance of a top Johannesburg golf club.
Yes, you woulld not expect to see the picture of the local electrical substation on this post. It is largely because it is the only image I have had time to edit so far but it goes to show that something one drives past every day can be viewed in a different way.
Take the time to Sunday Stroll. Be inspired.
Samsung Galaxy Tab

Recently we aquired Samsung Galaxy Tabs for work at Comment Media. Having had a little time to play with the device now I must say that I am suitably impressed. It certainly is in many ways replacing my netbook.
Obviously the choice of the iPad also weighed heavily on our minds but after a very appealling contract offer from MTN and some research, the choice.was made to go for the Galaxy Tab. We will be posting a full review on SAreview soon.

Home Security
Boy, it has been a while since I updated my own blog and a great deal has happened in the time that has lapsed.
We moved, been in the new place for about a month and a half. The move went alright though moving into a smaller place is not as simple as saying “well we don’t use those two rooms in anycase so lets scale down a bit.” Point is we had furniture in those rooms we never used so squashing things in has been challenging.
We moved into a boomed area for increased security. In the first week we had bangs and screams which had us calling the security company in the area. They informed us that it was from a big car accident the other side of the fenced off road we live in. A Mini had burst into flames and those explosions were the cause of the bangs we were hearing. Not a pretty site.
A few days later in a house down the road a man killed his wife and on the weekend when cornered by police, killed himself around the corner from their house.
Things seemed to be quieting down but this week has seen someone try break into a car that is parked outside our bedroom. Not pleasant when they damage your car to make a tool from the windscreen wiper, capable of breaking one of the windows of the neighbours car.
All this brings back memories from my earlier years as a teen when I woke to find someone exiting my bedroom – unbeknown to me at the time, he had a camera bag with new gear I had had for two days. It has an impact on one that is for sure. I find myself sleeping less soundly, waking in the early hours of the morning and listening for the slightest sounds till the birds begin to sing.
Its amazing how more aware you become of your vulnerability, analyse the security… Its a tough ride at times. It poses the question, what can we do collectively that we might not live in fear in the future in South Africa?

Been A While!
Its been a while since I last wrote, what on earth happened? Life! Things have been very busy of late.
September was travel – for the first time outside of Africa – to Germany and the UK as we went to attend arguably the world’s largest photographic expo, Photokina in Cologne.
Returning home at the end of September saw me preparing to conduct workshops for Sony at the Photo & Film Expo 2010 held at the Coca Cola Dome in Northgate. The main aim of the workshops was to demystify the differences in camera design from Mirrorless, DSLR and now Sony’s new Translucent Mirror.
Barely a week from the last day of the show and it was off to Victoria Falls to conduct the training at Sony South Africa’s launch of the new Alpha SLT-A33 and SLT-A55. Also on tour there with us was the new Sony NEX-VG10 video camera, a wonderful machine.
So there in a very brief nutshell you have it, the days of my life.
I am still trying to figure out in my head how I was this blog to work. Should it focus on just my photography and business areas or would you be entertained by my personal rambling or feeble attempts at journalism and short stories?
If anyone is out there, let me know, I would be most interested to hear your thoughts.
